Features of the clamping options

Features of precision chucks

The drive unit (AA) is used to rotate the workpieces. The precision clamping chuck (SP) is mounted onto the drive assembly. The chuck is used for clamping and centering the components. A fixed center (FS) is used as the opposing center.

  • Rotating chuck = rotating workpiece
  • The parts can be clamped on a rough diameter
    with an irregular outer contour
  • The workpieces can be aligned using the three
    individually adjustable quills of the chuck
  • The workpieces must be inserted into
    the chuck from above or below

Features of steady rest

The workpieces are clamped in the steady rest (LM) in such a way that they can still rotate. The drive center (AS) serves both as the opposing center and as the drive for the workpieces. The workpieces, fitted with a drive dog, are mounted on the drive center.

  • Fixed steady rest; the workpiece is
    driven by the drive center
  • To achieve good concentricity at the center,
    the clamping surfaces of the workpieces must
    have good runout accuracy (pre-ground)
  • The runout accuracy of the center can only be as
    good as the runout accuracy of the clamping diameter
  • Very simple and fast clamping of the workpieces
    (no alignment required)
  • The opening steady rest allows the workpieces
    to be loaded from the operator side
